Dream Interpretation: Why am I dreaming about other relationships?
Dream Articles
We recently received a request from a reader to offer some insight into a dream that she had been having almost every night for a week. Her dream interpretation request is as follows (edited to remove identifying information):
“I am in a very happy relationship myself but most nights for the last week I have dreamt about two men - famous and who I see as powerful and respected men. I am only 24 and run my own 2 companies! These dreams aren’t so much graphic sexually but I feel loved and respected in the dreams by them i think”
I first asked a couple of clarifying questions and learned that only one man appears in a dream at a time and that she runs two companies in her waking life. The next step was providing her with some possible interpretations. Following is the interpretation I provided.
Please remember that the best way to utilize the information I will share with you is to compare it to what you know to be true in your life and search within yourself for the “meaning” that makes sense in your situation.
Dreaming about relationships is very common and in your situation I feel that there are two different probable explanations for your dream. I always try to give at least two possible interpretations so that you will have more than one place to start your inner work.
The first possibility is that the powerful, successful men symbolize facets of your own personality. We often dream about ourselves reflected in others. Perhaps you dream about men because of a societal context that tells us success and power in a career is embodied by a man.
The feelings that you have of being loved and respected by them could indicate places that you would like to see some improvement in a current relationship, not necessarily with your significant other. I do not know what relationship, if any, you have with your father or father figure in your life but that could certainly be a relationship that this could apply to.
The second possibility I see is more straightforward, in that these men and the feelings they invoke within you in the dream, symbolize what you want out of a romantic relationship. Perhaps, although you are happy with your significant other, there are some areas of that relationship you would like to see change, even if you haven’t acknowledged that in your waking life.
Alternately, in this scenario, the father or father figure of your waking life could be the relationship that you would like to see changed. Perhaps, because you are successful at such a young age you desire more acknowledgments of your success and strength as a woman.
The reader was thankful for these insights and was able to look into her own life and relationships with this interpretation and become aware of her personal truths within her dreams. Please note that the information I shared with our dear reader was merely a suggestion of possibilities. Dreams, like people, are unique and when trying to interpret them you must always put the possible meanings into the context of your own experiences and emotions.
Thank you to our reader for her request and we hope that should anyone else have special requests they will take the time to fill out our contact form located HERE.
